barry sent me this via surfapig@live.comHey man, dig your site! I've been building surfboards for 30 years. Every size and shape imaginable. I do shape longboards, mostly high-performance boards. I usually do DT style boards. The one longboard shape I had not done was a Pig. Did my research. Found tons of useful info. on your site. So here it is. For me. 9' 6" x 23.5" x 3.25. Shaped from a US Blank 10'2". Flipped it around and the tail became the nose and visa-versa. Wanted more tail flip and a flatter nose rocker. Rolled Vee throughout. 60/40 rails. Had this old fin (I know not a D-fin). Wanted a more pivotal board. Olive green bottom and rail. Gold/Green deck w/ red resin pinline. Will be surfed next week. Thanks for the inspiration.

me chunky brother Russ sent this the other day. post like this stoke me out!!!!  Hi Mike,
Thought I'd send you a few picks of the latest Wild West Shooter from Gulf Stream Surfboards  and a few words!!
Hope all is well Mike and take care my Chunky Brother Russ

Check out this new beauty from Jools and his team at Gulf Stream Surfboards. This board is 9'8" of stunning craftsmanship. The Triple stringer is iconic, aesthetically beautiful and shall ever be part of the longboard heritage. Since the glory days of the 50's and 60's the triple stringer has provided not just strength but also beauty. Surfers like Phil Edwards, Billy Hamilton, Mike Hynson and Lance Carson were captured riding these standout designs by the likes of Ron Stoner and Leroy Grannis made these boards part of history and I have always been drawn to their beauty.

Wide point slightly back and with subtle rails throughout until you get to a vicious edge in the tail. This Wild West Shooter is designed to be a little more user friendly than model one but no less of a turner in the redirection department. Fitted with a beautiful crafted rounded pin we're talking smooth lines, fun times and with the extra kick, it'll turn on a dime.  A little wider in the nose at 17.75 and 16" in the tail, the stability on this steed is balanced and trim friendly. We're not talking full on noserider but all round trimable goodness with no concave to slow the rider down.

For those looking to support their local shaper, as we all should, this sled is also as pretty sustainable too. The blank is from Homeblown down here in Portreath and shaped in Devon, UK. Apart from the resin and cloth, this is the best of British and feel proud that after purchasing one of these beauties I'll be supporting the local economy.

For more info contact myself on russpierre@yahoo.co.uk and be proud to support the shapers in the UK.
P.S.  I'm not a purist and have a quiver complete with imports which are all keepers!!

i love days like this.

Ross sent me this via surfapig@live.com:
Hi Mike,

Happy Spring amigo!  I finally have carved out some time to spend a weekend at home so, with today's glorious weather blazing up the backyard, it seemed obvious to put together a quick quiver photo shoot.  Seeing as you reign as eminent pig pontificator, it figured it would only be proper to send along some snaps of the swine.

The collection consists of:

1. 1958 (?) Velzy Jacobs balsa pig, 9'9". Formerly a member of the Surf A Pig family.  Restoration by John Cherry.

2. Early 1960s Gordie pig, 10'.  3/4" redwood stringer, redwood fin, wood tailblock.

3. Early 1960s Hobie pig, 9'10". 1.5" balsa/redwood t-band stringer, multi-laminate checkerboard wood fin, wood tailblock.

4. 2012 Jim Allen pig, 10'.  1/2 inch balsa stringer, classic weight foam, balsa/cedar fin by Yancy Toland/me.  Glassing by Studio 609, Ventura.

Though seemingly redundant, each of these boards checks a unique box in my quest for the perfect pig and adds yet another chapter to my crew's quirky and idiosyncratic design library.  If only we had enough waves to do them all justice!

Be sure to let me know if you ever plan on heading up to point break country--I'd love to catch up over a burger and a beer.  Vaya con dios, compadre.

Go For It,

Ross

here's some shots from the Jim Allen board's construction process:
